The National Initiative aims to achieve the 21 Critical Health Objectives for Adolescents & Young Adults found in Healthy People 2010. These objectives focus on individual health outcomes and related behaviors that pose the greatest threat to the health of adolescents and, subsequently, adults. They focus on the following six areas:
- ♦ Mortality
- ♦ Unintentional Injury
- ♦ Violence
- ♦ Mental Health & Substance Abuse
- ♦ Reproductive Health
- ♦ Chronic Disease
The National Initiative takes a broad view of adolescent health, recognizing that healthy youth development and safe, nurturing environments are important in helping young people make healthy decisions. For more information about our philosophy and approach, go here.
