Guide to Local Adolescent Health Data Sources in California (2003)

This guide, developed with support from the California Department of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Branch, is designed to help county health departments, community providers, schools, advocates and others working in the field of adolescent health to identify county-level, adolescent-specific data. The guide covers data sources on: Demographic and Social/Educational Information, Chronic Disease, Access to Care, Injury, Suicide and Mental Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity, Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, Teen Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Oral Health. For each topic existing local data sources are listed and instructions are provided for accessing the data.

Additional data on mental health is available from Data on Utilization of Public Mental Health Services, 2004. The MS Excel file contains data provided by the California Department of Mental Health on utilization of public mental health services by youth 12-17 for each county for the fiscal years 2000/2001, 2001/2002, and 2002/2003. For more detail, see Source #24 in the Guide to Local Adolescent Health Data Sources in California
