Testing a developmentally based, family-engaged model of care for children with special health care needs (Kim Ahrens, MD, MPH, UW/SCH)
Dr. Kim Ahrens at UW/Seattle Children’s Hospital is conducting a study to inform an intervention for youth with special health care needs that is patient-centered, parent-engaged, and developmentally-informed. The study utilizes a qualitative-quantitative analysis to examine how youth’s skills in a variety of “in the home” and “out of home” tasks relate to age, health status and parenting style. To date, data have been collected from 286 parents of youth ages 13-18 who were being seen in primary care clinics.
