This preliminary report highlights the key findings of the 2005-06 National Network of State Adolescent Health Coordinators (NNSAHC) assessment. The State Adolescent Health Coordinators (“Coordinators” or “SAHCs”) provide leadership within state agencies to improve adolescent health, safety, and well-being, while also offering information and consultation to other organizations and agencies regarding comprehensive adolescent health. The purpose of the assessment was to describe the variety of adolescent health efforts in states under the Coordinators’ leadership and identify emerging needs for technical assistance and training. The assessment was administered between December 2005 and March 2006 and was made available to all 59 states, territories and jurisdictions. The five main topics of the assessment included: profile of Coordinators and Coordinator positions; major activities; guiding frameworks; environment; and technical assistance priorities. A total of 37 responses were received. The preliminary results were first presented at the NNSAHC meeting in April 2006. This preliminary report summarizes findings for the assessment’s five main topics. The appendix presents detailed information on responses to the assessment’s close-ended questions.
