Assessing adolescent technology use; sleep hygiene and related clinical screening (using California Health Interview Survey Data)
This project also focuses on adolescent technology use. Dr. Ozer, as a member of the Adolescent Advisory Committee for the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) has spearheaded this project that uses the 2017 administration of CHIS. The AYAH-RN was able to add key questions focused on technology use, leveraging the infrastructure of this state-wide survey whose adolescent sample is representative of the state’s youths ages 12-17. After reviewing existing research and consulting key researchers and leaders in preventive guidelines, the AYAH-RN identified four questions to advance research in this area; these focus on: hours of sleep; household rules about technology use; clinician discussion of technology use; and adolescents’ perception of technology interfering with sleep.
