Emerging Issues: Assessing adolescent technology use; sleep hygiene and related clinical screening

Assessing adolescent technology use; sleep hygiene and related clinical screening (using California Health Interview Survey Data)

Dr. Ozer, as a member of the Adolescent Advisory Committee for the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) has spearheaded this project that uses the 2017 administration of CHIS. The AYAH-RN facilitated the addition of key questions focused on technology use into this state-wide survey whose adolescent sample is representative of the state’s youths ages 12-17. The AYAH-RN identified four questions to advance research in this area; these focus on: hours of sleep; household rules about technology use; clinician discussion of technology use; and adolescents’ perception of technology interfering with sleep. The data will be available for analysis soon. Stay tuned for updates!
