The Adolescent and Young Adult Health National Resource Center (AYAH-NRC) is pleased to announce the:
“Framing Adolescent Health: Are You Sending the Right Message” webinar series
The Bottom Line – February 27, 2018
1:00- 2:30 PM EST
As members of the adolescent health community we all – both as individuals and in our agencies or organizations – have a role to play in shaping how people think about and support young people to be healthy. This webinar series will borrow strategies used by commercial advertisers, leverage the best thinking of cognitive linguists and apply findings from the latest communication research.
The kick-off webinar on Tuesday, February 27 is equal parts overview and rant. it will offer a top-line of the framing issues that define the communications challenges facing the public health professionals charged with supporting adolescent health.
Glynis Shea is the Communications Director for the Konopka Institute for Best Practices in Adolescent Health at the University of Minnesota. A former Saatchi & Saatchi ad exec with nearly 30 years of marketing communications experience, Glynis now applies her marketing communications expertise to the challenges of the youth serving community. Her work is funded by several grants including the Adolescent & Young Adult Health National Resource Center (HRSA/MCHB funded technical assistance for State MCH professionals) and the Healthy Youth Development • Prevention Research Center (funded by the CDC to explore prevention strategies through community collaboration).
But wait, there’s more!
See attached flyer for more information on the this marketing series. Please disseminate widely to your colleagues.
Upcoming webinars in this series:
- Framing 101 (March 13, 2018): This is a return to basics: What is framing? What’s the difference between marketing and communications? How do we craft messages and communications that are “well framed.” How do we select – and learn about – our core audiences? What does it mean to talk about our values? Concepts will be explored through media analysis and tools. Register HERE!
- Adolescents & Sex (March 27, 2018): A presentation of framing recommendations for communicating about adolescent health in general and sexual health specifically. We’ll take a deeper dive into competing priorities, critique public health materials and align communications with developmental strategies. Register HERE!
- Equity, disparities, social determinants (April 10, 2018): Just because we find adolescent health disparities data compelling doesn’t mean anyone else does. In fact, to some audiences, this data reinforced corrosive beliefs about race, gender, sexual orientation and age. In this session, we will investigate how to minimize the damage and blaze a trail for how MCH thinks – and talks – about health and health disparities. Register HERE!
