3-E Study of Economic and Educational Well-Being

The AYAH-RN continues to collaborate on the NIH-funded 3-E R01 study (5 waves of surveys and campus health visits over three years, N=4,000), which aims to understand links between economic experiences, educational experiences, and cardiometabolic health among emerging adult (defined here as ages 18-24) college students at two Hispanic-Serving Institutions in California (California State University, East Bay and UC Riverside). The AYAH-RN has specifically provided funding for collection of digital phenotyping data allowing the investigators to examine the mechanisms linking socioeconomic trajectories and cardiovascular health. The study, led by AYAH-RN collaborators Dr. Alison Cohen (UCSF, early career investigator) and Dr. Lindsay Till Hoyt (Fordham U) is in active data collection, with an N of 516 (all aged 18-25) enrolled in AYAH-RN funded 3-E smartphone subsample. At the end of Year 2, the study also received a National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research U01 to layer on to the 3-E led by Dr. Ben Chaffee in the UCSF School of Dentistry. The U01 adds oral health measures to 3-E. AYAH-RN-funded preliminary data was utilized in applying for this U01.
