The ACA has focused national attention on the importance of clinical preventive services for adolescents and young adults. Providing these services to young adults offers clinicians the opportunity to shape their patient’s health throughout the life course, yet many clinicians lack the tools and specific knowledge to do so. In November 2017, NAHIC updated its fact sheet designed to guide clinicians, policymakers, and researchers on preventive care for AYAs. This fact sheet summarizes the evidence base of clinical preventive services, with emphasis on those services recommended by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).
- Evidence-based Clinical Preventive Services for Adolescents and Young Adults: A one-page fact sheet summarizing the evidence base of clinical preventive services for AYAs, with special emphasis on recommendations from USPSTF.
This document serves as a broad overview of the relevant recommendations for AYAs and are not meant to be all-encompassing. There may be special considerations for certain subpopulations within the AYA age group, such as pregnant women. For information on screening, please visit the USPSTF website. For information on immunizations, please visit the CDC website.
